About Us

Since 1994, the ASAA’s program objectives have been:
- to provide sailing opportunities for people with disabilities
- to facilitate the rehabilitation of people with disabilities
- to promote the ongoing development of sailor’s skills
- to promote the integration of disabled sailors into able-bodied sailing activities
- to enable high-level quadriplegics to sail independently.
Without the accessible equipment and support we provide, many of our clients would not be able to have the opportunity to get out on the water and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of sailing. There are two streams of programming that we provide during the operational year: Community Sailing and Individual Sailing. The priority of both streams is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for sailing. Sailing is a unique sport as it allows our members to leave their disability on the dock and experience independence and freedom in a way that would not otherwise be available.
I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
- Jimmy Dean
